NBC Dismisses 'Wonder Woman'

  Well, that was quick! According to EW, David E.Kelley´s Wonder Woman won´t be using her powers any time soon as NBC has decided to reject the pilot after it was reportedly received with mixed reviews at early screenings.

 It isn´t a secret that the project was getting a lot of criticism everywhere, specially after the first picture of Adrianne Palicki wearing the costume appeared online.

Now it is up to Warner Bros. TV to shop around the pilot elsewhere or shelve it completely. 

It is really a shame, we were curious to see what all the buzz was about with this new show.

New ‘Wonder Woman’ Images

 Fans of the original Wonder Woman may rest calmly as two new pictures from the shooting of the pilot have emerged (courtesy of SFX) showing actress Adrianne Palicky and, what looks like her body double, wearing a more appropiately improved costume for the Amazonian hero.

 After the first official image of Palicki´s costume emerged, many fans complained about how silly and unrealistic it looked like, which is something that apparently the studio has taken into account if we pay close attention to the changes shown in the new images released. First Look: NBC´s Wonder Woman

 The first official image of Adrianne Palicki as Wonder Woman in the pilot NBC is producing has been unveiled.

 According to the first version of David E. Kelley´s script that was leaked on the Internet, there will be more than one costume for the hero as she will portray not two but three different identities (so we´re guessing this might not be the definite modern version but one that resembles the classic old fashioned one).

 What do you guys think, so far? Hit or miss?

Original Wonder Woman Actress Praises New Pilot

 Lynda Carter, popular for starring as Wonder Woman in the 1970s TV show, has stated that she fully supports David E. Kelley´s new pilot starring Adrianne Palicki.

 Carter spoke to the Baltimore Sun about the new incarnation of the series: "I think it is an amazing role to play. I know [Adrianne] is going to be really nervous about it, just because you would be. But I have a lot of confidence in David Kelley and what he's going to come up with. David Kelley's so talented, and that's really where it needs to be, is in the writing,"

 She added: "I spoke with David yesterday, and he's really, really excited about it. The story needs to be retold, it needs to have a fresh look at it. It affected a lot of people. I think it's time; I think it's important to have it out there again."

Adrianne Palicki Is The New Wonder Woman

 According to TV Line, Actress Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights) has been cast as Wonder Woman in David E. Kelley´s pilot that is being produced by NBC.

The plot of the show finds Palicki playing none other than three different roles:

The superhero and crimefighter, Diana Themyscira, a mega-billionaire CEO and Diana’s assistant, Diana Prince.

Palicki was last seen as one of the female leads of Fox´s short-lived series, Lone Star.

More NBC´s Wonder Woman Pilot Details

 Ever since the Wonder Woman pilot was ordered by NBC, there has been many questions about how the female superhero would be adapted to current times. The Futon Critic has exclusively revealed more details about David E Kelley´s script about the amazon superhero.

 On the plot of the show: Diana Themyscira is a Los Angeles-based superhero who runs Themyscira Industries (which among other things, sells Wonder Woman-related merchandise) by day and fights crime as Wonder Woman by night. Since the world already relates her to Wonder Woman she invents herself a new secret identity, Diana Prince, complete with a disguise including contact lenses and different hairstyle to hide who she really is.

 On the costume: According to the script it is "a colorful spandex suit." No more details are given except that it won´t be the original popular costume. (that one will appear as the company´s top seller). This new Wonder Woman insists to have a more modern outfit appropiate to current times.

 On the main villain: Veronica Cale, head of Cale-Anderson Pharmaceuticals, will rival Diana in both beauty and success, doing everything she can to destroy her.

 On the mythology: Themyscira is a place almost impossible to find so leaving it implies a price for amazons: the loss of inmortality.

 On pop culture references: There is a funny reference to Katy Perry stealing Diana´s look in the video for her new single. In relation to music, Diana has her own entrance theme for press conferences ("Wonder of You," as performed by Jeffrey McDonald).

 Bear in mind that the script may undergo many changes and rewrites before the pilot is finally filmed. What do you think so far? Will you give Wonder Woman a try if it gets picked up for series?

NBC Pîcks Up Wonder Woman Pilot

 Finally, some good news regarding Wonder Woman! Contrary to what was said in the press weeks ago, THR confirms that NBC has picked up David E. Kelley's version of Wonder Woman to pilot. Apparently, NBC and the other television networks first passed on the project due to budgetary reasons but, last month, Kelley hinted that the show might finally get a chance to land on the small screen as soon as next year.

"I think the likelihood is we'll see it next year. I'm being optimistic but I don't think I'm being unrealistic." he told THR in mid-January. He also hinted that NBC would be a perfect fit for the series.

 "I like to think of it as a smart script and I know [new NBC programming chief Bob Greenblatt] responds to smart material." He added that the character will not only be a superhero but a "real complex woman".

 Now, let´s just hope it gets picked up as a proper TV series!

Wonder Woman TV Show Not Happening

 Wonder Woman is sure proving to be a difficult character to resurrect in this day and age. After a number of failed attempts to bring the character to the big screen (Joss Whedon even wrote a script for a big screen adaptation), the last possible incarnation was to be produced for TV. However, according to EW, all major broadcasters have passed on the script for the TV series.

 The project was being shopped around by Warner Bros. TV, based on a script from David E. Kelley (Ally McBeal) but on late Friday, NBC was the final network that declined to bring back the superhero. Even though sources close to the project state that they will not give up on it, it is almost confirmed that the series is “not moving forward at this time.”

 The high costs required for a license to bring the character back to life may have been a important factor for the networks to decline producing an updated version of the show for TV.

 It is really sad to see how interesting projects like this one do not become a reality for corporate reasons.
